Post-it® Notes were discovered accidently in 1968 by Dr Spencer Silver, a scientist at 3M. While trying to create a strong adhesive, Dr Spencer instead discovered an adhesive that was low tack, pressure sensitive and reusable.

Later a colleague by the name of Art Fry who attended a seminar run by Dr Spencer promoting his new adhesive, came up with the idea to use it to anchor his notes to hi hymn books.

In 1978 3M gave out free samples of this new products and the response was overwhelming and the following year Post-it® Notes were released in the US.
